Waste Audits and Waste Reduction Work Plans- R.R.O. 1990, O. Reg. 102/94
O. Reg. 102/94 requires manufacturing facilities with more than 100 full time employees (or equivalent part-time employees) to carry out non-hazardous solid waste audits and prepare waste reduction work plans on a minimal annual basis. Under The Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Regulation 102/94, designated organizations are required to conduct annual waste audits. A waste audit highlights the types of wastes that are produced, the manner in which wastes are produced, and in what quantities they are produced, within a facility. A waste audit must also focus on identifying the underlying reasons and operational factors for waste generation, which include such things as procurement policies, and specifications for raw materials, supplies and equipment. Specifically, the audit should address the amount, nature and composition of the waste produced in all departments, how the waste is produced, including relevant management policies and practices, and how the waste is currently managed in the organization.
